On March 22, Reverend Martin Brewer, S.J., passed away in Santa Barbra, California . The Son of Louis Ramon Brewer and Carmelita Alice (Sullivan), he was born in Oakland, raised in Yuba City. He attended the University of San Francisco before entering the Society of Jesus in 1941. He experienced the Jesuit formation and received an M.A. in Philosophy whereupon he taught at Bellarmine College Prep, San Jose. He studied Theology and was ordained in 1954. Apart form 2 more years at Bellarmine, Martin served in pastoral ministry twice in Sacramento [Our Lady of Sorrows]. He was Pastor in Santa Barbara[15 years]; pastor emeritus [16 years]. His best friend from youth , Arthur Delomier, died at the invasion of Iwo Jima. Martin was beloved by all.
He is survived by his brothers: Robert (June), San Jose; David (Kara, deceased), Stockton; Paul (Hope), Kelseyville; a sister, Elena Moore, Colusa, predeceased him , plus many generations of nieces and nephews plus the Morris [Piedmont] and Delormier clans.
Viewing: Our Lady of Sorrows, Santa Barbara, March 27, at 4:00p.m.; Vigil at 6:30; Funeral at 7:00p.m. Burial: Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, March 29 at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Our Lady of Sorrows Building Fund a charitable contribution.
